Impressive Impressions: Selections from Ohio University's Kennedy Museum of Art Print Collection

May 1 - July 13, 2014

The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery will present Impressive Impressions: Selections from Ohio University's Kennedy Museum of Art Print Collection from May 1-July 13, 2014. Building upon an exhibition curated by Donald Roberts, an Ohio University emeritus professor of art, Impressive Impressions will invite the viewer to not only understand the foundation of the permanent collection but also to reflect on the history of the medium of printmaking. The Riffe Gallery will present more than 50 contemporary prints created between the early 1960s and 2000.

Artists in the show include (Ohio artists are noted in bold type): Josef Albers, Terry Allen, Shusaku Arakawa, Jennifer Bartlett, Georg Baselitz, Richard Bosman, Harvey Breverman, John Buck, Christo, Robert Cottingham, Sue Coe, Laddie John Dill, Leslie Dill, Eric Fischl, April Gornik, David Hockney, Yvonne Jacquette, Jasper Johns, Abner Jonas, Ellsworth Kelly, Karen Kunc, Sol Lewitt, David Ligare, Pam Longobardi, Mary Manusos, James Mcgarrel, Robert Motherwell, Kenneth Noland, Mimmo Paladino, Philip Perlstein, Judy Pfaff, Robert Rauschenberg, Donald Roberts, James Rosenquist, Michael Rothenstein, Edward Ruscha, Lorna Simpson, Steven Sorman, Andrew J. Stasik, Pat Steir, Frank Stella, Wayne Thiebaud, William Wiley and Melanie Yazzie.

Join the Riffe Gallery for the opening of Impressive Impressions on Thursday, May 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., where we will also celebrate the Riffe Gallery's 25th Anniversary.

On Friday, May 2, from noon to 1:00 p.m., join us for a free tour of the exhibition led by Ohio University's Kennedy Museum Curator, Petra Kralickova.

On Sunday, June 1, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., participate in a Free Family Workshop with members of Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative. Using the magic of printmaking, participants in the workshop will use their own drawings of people, houses and trees to print multiple images out of a single image. Supplies will be provided. Children ages 6 to 17 are welcome to participate with an adult companion. Registration is required as space is limited; all children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Register online between May 5 and May 28.

On Thursday, June 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., join guest poet Paula J. Lambert for an hour of poetry readings followed by Open Mic. Please register for the event online between May 5 and June 2, 2014.
