OAC DIRECTOR ATTENDS WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE

What is the role of culture in America's global presence? Wayne P. Lawson, executive director of the Ohio Arts Council, met in late November with U.S. and international political and corporate leaders, academicians, artists, cultural leaders and members of the news media at the White House Conference on Culture and Diplomacy to discuss that issue.

Eight winners have been selected for the 2001 Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio. Winners were selected in seven categories from more than 100 nominations. Awards will be presented at a luncheon honoring award winners and members of the Ohio Legislature hosted by the Ohio Arts Council and Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation March 14 at The Columbus Athenaeum, 32 North Fourth Street in downtown Columbus. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. and the awards program will begin at noon. Winners
will receive an original work by ceramic artist Angelica Pozo. Passion Works Studio of Athens is creating the table centerpieces. Glenda A. Hatchett is this year's keynote speaker.

Award categories and recipients are: Arts Administration, Donn Vickers, The Thurber House, Columbus; Arts in Education, Gary DeVault, Tri-County Educational Service Center, Wooster; Arts Outreach, Parade the Circle Celebration, Cleveland; Arts Patron, Richard P. Anderson, Maumee; two winners in Business Support of the Arts: Kewpee Hamburger, Lima and The Mead Corporation, Dayton; Individual Artist, Wayne Dodd, Athens; Partnerships in the Arts, Village of Crooksville.

The Irma Lazarus Award will be given to John Ruthven of Georgetown. The award honors the memory of Irma Lazarus, an arts patron, advocate and leader in the (CONT'D Page  2 )
