Picture Day, a short documentary by Ohio filmmaker Steven Bognar, was selected to play at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival, January 20-30, in Park City, Utah. Picture Day was one of 65 selections from 2,000 films submitted in the short film category.

Bognar created the seven-minute film while he was an Ohio Arts Council artist in residence at Tussing Elementary School in the Columbus suburb of Pickerington, October 1998 to May 1999.

Picture Day features 601 of the school's students individually posing for the camera with a soundtrack of students

discussing the meaning of photographs. Bognar filmed the students in a format called pixilation, used for animations. To make the film more interactive, he used students as interviewers and camera operators. "Picture Day, is a great example of arts education in the Midwest," Bognar said. "That's something I've put a lot of energy into in the last 10 years. I'm really proud of that." This is Bognar's second film to show at Sundance. In 1996, his film Personal Belongings, about his father, premiered at the prestigious film festival.
