community task force that initiated and guided the project. Music Director Christoph von Dohnanyi conducted the first concert in the new Severance Hall in January. To celebrate the renovation, von Dohnanyi has scheduled a gala series of performances with a wide range of guest conductors and artists through May 2001. This fall, the Business Committee for the Arts will launch art@work to help companies of all sizes recognize and celebrate their employees' creativity. Employees will be encouraged to take the art they create, perform and enjoy into the workplace to share it with their colleagues. art@work was developed to help businesses respond to workers' concerns, such as finding a balance between work and personal time and feeling burned out. BCA tested art@work in four companies across the United States, including Cinergy Corp. in Cincinnati. Initiatives included employee art exhibitions, literary and performing art presentations and lunchtime employee-led art demonstrations. Speaking of the program, Christopher Forbes, vice chairman of Forbes Inc., said: "The arts make for a more stimulating and creative work environment, and have a positive impact on the bottom line. By participating in art@work and recognizing the creativity of our employees, we show our commitment to them and their interests, which boosts morale and team spirit." The National Parks Academy of the Arts is seeking artists for its 14th annual representational art competition, Arts for the Parks. Deadline is June 1. Subjects must be landscapes, wildlife or history from areas governed by the National Park Service. Original, two-dimensional art only; no sculpture, photography, prints or computer generated artwork.
