The Ohio Arts Council hosted an arts administration symposium for 30 international guests from 9 countries in mid-June. The weeklong event included sessions on arts administration and visits to arts organizations in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. Representatives from public and private cultural organizations in Argentina, Austria, Chile, Cuba, Czech Republic, Germany, India, Israel and Mexico attended.

The symposium introduced participants to the American model of arts administration. Topics included federal, regional and local programming, non-profit administration structure, advocacy, exhibition planning, strategic and long range planning, as well as fundraising and marketing.

Participants visited Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus College of Art and Design and the Southern Theatre in Columbus; Playhouse Square, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland; Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and The Taft Museum in Cincinnati to observe how those organizations operate.
