A collection of decorative arts documenting the evolution of taste in Britain over four centuries is on display at the Cincinnati Art Museum through January 17, 1999. British Elegance: Decorative Arts from the Burghley House features more than 120 exquisite works of jewelry, furniture, silver and porcelain accented with gold, silver, diamonds, rubies, emeralds, ivory and quartz crystal.   Performing arts grants for 1999-2000 are available from Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. The ArtsCONNECT program supports performing arts tours through presenter consortia and partnerships. ArtsEmerge grants help artists and presenters explore the potential of a touring project or facilitate tour planning. For more information contact the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation at 410/539-6656.


The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation is offering 14 free studio spaces in New York City through juried applications. U.S. citizens or permanent residents should apply by January 30, 1999, for use of the non-living spaces. Names in the News

  Composer Marilyn Shrude of Bowling Green is the first female recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize in music in the award’s 37 year history. Shrude is a pianist and professor at Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts. Other recipients of the 1998 prize include Mary Doria Russell, for literature; Holly Morrison, for visual art; and Kathleen H. Coakley, who received a special citation for distinguished service to the arts.

Columbus Symphony Orchestra musicians Randall Hester and Steven Secan recently celebrated 25 years of service, making them the longest serving full-time players in the orchestra’s history.
