  Kristy Krivitsky of Savannah, Ohio, and Lisa Schare of Cincinnati have been awarded $5,000 visual arts fellowships by Arts Midwest and the National Endowment for the Arts. Krivitsky, who makes books, and Schare, a painter, were among 142 Ohio artists who applied for the honor.

Julia Blackburn has been named managing director of BalletMet Columbus. She has been director of finance and administration for Merce Cunningham Dance Company in New York and director of member programs at Dance/USA in Washington, DC.

  PUBLIC CONTINUES TO BACK THE ARTS

A recent Louis Harris survey on the arts in America shows:

  • Public backs government support for arts programs by 3-1 margin; would pay more taxes for arts.
  • Nearly two-thirds believe state governments should fund arts.
  • Two-thirds support local government funding of arts.
  • 86 percent are involved some way in the arts; they are not elitist.
  • More Americans participate in the arts than vote in presidential elections, by 33 percent.
  • 90 percent believe children benefit from regular exposure to arts in school.
  • Majority would sorely miss the arts if they were not available.
