Two events will be held in conjunction with this exhibition; both are free and open to the public:

Wednesday, June 4, 2003, 12 – 1 p.m. Lecture and Tour with Catherine Evans. Curator Catherine Evans will lead a tour of the exhibition while discussing the similarities and differences between the American Midwest and Central Europe as presented through the photographs in The View From Here.

Sunday, June 22, 2003, 2 – 4 p.m. Family Day.
Children of all ages and their parents are invited to learn the basics of photography with professional photographer Stephanie Bair-Garant. Participants should bring an item of significance – or even a person – to photograph in one of our unique photo stations. Disposable cameras will be provided.

Following its American premiere at the Riffe Gallery, The View From Here will travel to SPACES, Cleveland; the Minnesota Center for Photography, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and the Erie Art Museum, Erie, Pennsylvania. For more information or to schedule a tour call the Riffe Gallery at 614/644-9624.

CONTEMPORARY ARTS CENTER OPENS NEW BUILDING

Cincinnati's Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) will open the stunning new Lois & Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art to the public on Saturday, May 31. Designed by the London firm of Zaha Hadid Architects, the new building will extend the CAC's 63-year tradition of innovation by encouraging viewers, artists and art to interact in new ways within a presenting space.

The new building will feature galleries of varying sizes and ceiling heights to accommodate the varied shapes, scales and media of contemporary art. The galleries connect and interlock like a three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle, made up of solid structural elements and open spaces.

The CAC is dedicated to presenting new developments in painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, performance art and new media. Because the Center does not have a permanent collection, it offers its audiences entirely new experiences with each exhibition. For more information call Susan Jackson at 513/345-8415, email pr@cacmail.org or visit www.ContemporaryArtsCenter.org.
