2009 Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio
About the Artist Who Created the Awards
Jean Koeller, painter, New Carlisle
Jean Koeller first began painting in 1978 and received her undergraduate
degree from Wright State University. She received her Master of Fine Arts in
painting from Parsons School of Art and Design in New York City and she also
attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in the summer of 1981.
She is a 1998 Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship recipient, two-time
recipient of the Montgomery County Culture Awards for Individual Artists and
received travel and teaching Grants for Italy and France from the University
of Dayton. She was awarded Outstanding Alumni for 2005 by Wright State
University College of Humanities. Her one person shows include Duveneck
Gallery, Ky., Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, Pa., University of Massachusetts
Lowell, Kirkland Fine Arts Center in Illinois, Doris Ulmann Galleries in
Berea, Ky., Lakeland College in Wisconsin, Xavier University Chicago, Ill.,
Austin Peay University, Clarksville, Tenn., Carnegie Arts Center, Covington,
Ky., and numerous group shows regionally, nationally and internationally in
France, Tokyo and Hungary. Her work is found in many collections including
the Evansville Museum of Art, Springfield Museum of Art, Hoyt Institute of
Fine Arts, Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts in Columbus, Ohio
Supreme Court, Deloitte & Touche, Mallincordt Corp. and Aileron Corporation.
She is represented by the Keny Galleries in Columbus. Jean has spent most of
her painting life in Dayton, but recently moved to three acres in New Carlisle
where she has returned to painting from nature.
