Hailed as ''one of America's leading baroque orchestras'' by The Boston Globe, Apollo's Fire, The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra, performs 17th and 18th century music on the period instruments for which it was written. Known for its fresh and lively approach to historically informed performance, the ensemble offers audiences the unique opportunity to hear live period-instrument performances of baroque music, as well as Renaissance and early classical repertoire. The orchestra has toured widely, with recent concerts at the Aspen Music Festival, Columbia University in New York City, Boston Early Music Festival concert series, National Academy of Sciences and Library of Congress in Washington DC, Philadelphia Bach Festival, and Toledo Museum of Art. The ensemble has released 12 critically-acclaimed CDs and has been broadcast nationally on NPR and regionally on WKSU and WCLV. Under the direction of music director Jeannette Sorrell, Apollo's Fire has received rave reviews nationwide and been acclaimed for its ability to create ''joy on stage . . . that generates joy in the audience'' (The Plain Dealer).
