International Partnership—Understanding Each Other's Culture Is
Good Business

Since l989, the Ohio Arts Council's International Program has encouraged cultural dialogue among academic and cultural arts institutions and artists throughout the world. Economic globalization and increased cultural misunderstandings indicate that now, more than ever, we need to use the arts to help people of different nationalities listen, talk, challenge and support each other. The arts help build healthy communities. Through the arts, individuals can explore similarities as well as differences between cultures. To understand each other's culture is to respect one another.

The OAC's International Program supports education projects, exhibitions, artist exchanges, performances and informational resources. Funding priority is given to projects with recognized OAC international partner countries. Organizations must be non-profit and based in Ohio. Organizations or individuals in other countries must have an Ohio partner or contact the OAC for more information.

Before applying to this program you must read Guidelines, specifically the legal and program requirements. Unless otherwise stated, all future deadlines will use the new Online Grant Application system (ARTIE). No paper applications will be accepted for this program.

In 2003, a delegation of Ohio arts administrators and OAC staff traveled to Chile to teach ways for using the arts in community development. In an effort to extend the learning beyond our visit, we created a series of worksheets designed to help Chilean arts administrators build organizational capacity to plan programs and projects. These worksheets are available in both English and Spanish.
