2007 Governor's Awards Artist, Brian Joiner

Cincinnati mixed-media artist Brian Joiner has been chosen to create the Ohio Arts Council’s 2007 Governor’s Awards for the Arts. The Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio are given annually to Ohio individuals and organizations in recognition of outstanding contributions to the arts statewide, regionally and nationally. This year’s ceremony will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at noon in the Columbus Athenaeum, 32 North Fourth Street, downtown Columbus.

Joiner’s life-long love of drawing led him to pursue his passion at the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1985. He has participated in an extensive list of solo and group exhibitions across the Midwest, and earned numerous awards, including the Ohio Arts Council Individual Fellowship Award in 2001. Joiner places particular emphasis on the creative process in his work and is constantly exploring new ideas and methods to enhance the visual experience.

Award categories include: Arts Education, Community Development and Participation, Arts Administration, Arts Patron, Individual Artist and Business Support of the Arts. Joiner will create an award for each of the six categories. The Ohio Arts Council is currently accepting nominations for the 2007 Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio. Nominations and support letters may be submitted online at www.oac.state.oh.us until Monday, October 16, 2006.

All proceeds from the event go to the Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation. The Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio and Arts Day Luncheon is presented by Ohio Arts Council and Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation.
